Critical Infrastructure Protection: Elements of Risk
The CIP Program is currently developing a monograph on critical infrastructure protection (CIP) and risk. The monograph will feature manuscripts authored by representatives from academia, state and local governments, and the private sector, some of which either served in the Federal government or support the government through contracting organizations.
The manuscripts will address broad topics such as:
The definition of risk;
Risk methodologies;
Strategic approaches to risk management;
Regional determination of risk; and
Risk mitigation.
The goal of the risk monograph is to present numerous perspectives on risk, whether addressing, for example, the development of risk assessments or the advancement of risk management as a unique profession. With the term “risk” being increasingly used in discussions about homeland security, it is important to understand the fundamentals of risk and how it is managed on various levels.
Examples of monographs the CIP Program previously released, as well as numerous other written works, may be found at http://cipp.gmu.edu/research/. The format of this new monograph will be similar to past monographs.
