The CIP grant is used to fund basic and applied research, as well as support information and outreach activities related to the key components of the national research agenda. Research projects have been sponsored at nearly 20 different universities, and in a variety of disciplines.

General Research Proposals

We invite researchers from within and outside Mason to submit proposals for CIP-related work. For researchers interested in working with the CIP, please complete the following steps:

  • Review the library of critical infrastructure protection resources available on this website and others to ensure that the proposed research topic would fit into the scope of research supporting the national agenda and priorities in critical infrastructure protection.
  • Review The CIP Report archive to further ensure that the proposed research topic would be aligned with the issues of importance to the CIP community and the ongoing research and activities of the CIP Program.
  • Prepare a draft statement of work, complete with the project concept, an explanation of how this research would benefit the greater CIP community, research methodology, timeline, deliverables and budget narrative.
  • Submit this draft statement of work (either in electronic or hard copy) to Bill Zachman for review.
  • After the draft statement of work has been reviewed, the researcher (or research team) may be contacted to further discuss the proposed research project.
